Sky Light Awaits: thatgamecompany's Lost Video Game
Sky: Light Awaits was supposed to be released in September of 2017 as the centerpiece of Apple's iPhone X and Apple TV rollout. Apple did quietly announced that the game would be pushed back until March of 2018, this however hasn't happened and here we are on the eve of 2019 and the game is still having the bugs worked out in Beta testing.
thatgamecompany took a huge risk by making it's next game an Apple iOS exclusive. The company had a tremendously loyal following on the PlayStation Platform and a switch from a powerful gaming system to the limitations of a hand held was curious. Apple although prestigious, runs second to Android and gaming isn't exactly the priority of iPhone users.
Beta testers of Sky; Light Awaits have had very mixed reviews. The game is essentially a emoji and costume collection game where players fly thought the sky and light candles all in a reskin world of Journey complete with the symbolic mountain in the distance. Former thatgamecompany fans have found the game bitterly disappointing while the young pre-teen and teen market have embraced the casual gaming experience.
To be fair Sky: Light awaits is unfinished and thatgamecompany may have a few tricks up it's sleeve and from what I have personally seen of this game, I certainly hope so. One thing is for certain, we will all have to wait.
