Destiny 2: Spire of Stars Raid Survival Guide

So, Destiny fans the new raid is upon us. Spire of Stars dropped at a unusually high light level, meaning most Destiny players won't be able to take it on right away.  However, that wont stop them from trying and most likely failing.  If you are familiar with Destiny prestige raids and the way they bring out the worst in people, than this new raid will be similar, but like a video game zombie virus that transforms your average player into a hate spewing monster.

The key to beating a raid is teamwork. It is only possible to be successful in the raid if all fire team members work together as a supportive group, because after all the raid is just pushing buttons on a controller. Lets look closer at this social dynamic and hopefully this guide will help you identify and traverse this new raid, not the mechanics, but the far more important quagmire of human interaction.

Who is your Fire Team?

The Raid Leader:  This is the person who started the raid. The only leadership quality's they have is
they pushed a button the start the raid. The raid leader will constantly remind you after wiping exactly how long they have been at it. For example "come on guys, I've been at this tree hours!" Surviving this player is the easiest, they just want to get this done and will be more forgiving than most.

The Statistician :  This fire team members only responsibility is to remind everyone who is dying. They keep vigilant mental notes and tally up who has died the most. For example in a whinny voice they will say "Stoner-girl420 keeps dying." Surviving this player will be tough. They will bring a growing negative energy into the group and the person they pick on the most will most likely leave, causing an prolonged wait to unsuccessfully find a new player and the inevitable break up of the fire team.

The Secret Noob: This player hasn't done the raid before and they're not going to tell you that. They are trying to learn the raid and hoping the other fire teams members will swoop in and help them. They are usually the quietest member of the fire team and are often identifiable after ten minutes.  You would think this player would bring down the team, but in reality they are laser focused absorbing all they can, completely living in the moment and in many cases out playing the veteran players.

The Countdown Clock Keeper: This fire team member will put unrealistic and unnecessary time limitations on the group. They will say things like "if we don't get it in five more try's  i'm out of here."   With each wipe the countdown clock grows closer. "OK this is my last try" is a famoums battle cry of the countdown guy.

The LFG Guy: This guy usually arrives in the group half way through the raid at a point everyone's nerves are shot and they are usually replacing the guy who the Statistician drove away.  The LFG player will usually be a good players and know their stuff, but the fire team is so toxic by this point it rarely works.  The LFG player will be rewarded with a checkpoint for their efforts and will usually put together a far better fire team on the LFG sites later.

The Raid Hero: This is the most annoying player in the group. They will have ever weapon maxed
out, every emblem, every strategy memorized. They're usually are a kid living at home with nothing better to do that play Destiny. They are however, very good and you will be reminded of this often by the player them selves. The Hero battle cry is "come on guys this is easy!"

Knowing these players is key to surviving the raid.  Will you survive? Most likely not,  but don't let that stop you. If you succeed the rewards will help sooth your damaged psyche and give you motivation to try it again.

From all of us at Gamilon Magazine: Good luck were all counting on you.
