25 million gallons of wine thrown up annually

Wine makers estimate approximately 25 million of the 23 billion  gallons of wine produced annually is thrown up.  This figure is down slightly from the the 2010 high of 32 million gallons thrown up.

Cheaper wines and box wines appear to have the largest percentage of wine vomited with manufactures like Boone's Farm and Thunderbird leading the list. Curiously the small craft wine sector has the next highest percentile, followed by the more expensive wines.  The Australian goon bag wines account for 4.3 million  thrown up and champagne has 6.2 million gallons vomited.

To put that number into perspective, approximately 2,739 gallons an day is being thrown up.  Mostly in college towns and urban areas.  To avoid throwing up your favorite wine the French Institute of Wine Studies warns drinkers to use moderation, drink slowly and use a standard wine glass to enjoy the aroma.
